nanoSTAR is expanding and is happy to announce a new direction and a new vision!
Vision statement: The nanoSTAR Institute encourages, facilitates and supports transformative and convergent research, education, and commercialization in the key areas of medicine, electronics/photonics and energy and the environment through partnerships with academia, industry, and national laboratories. Institute participants come from a total of five schools at the University: School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, School of Medicine, Curry School of Education, Darden School of Business, College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. This institute forms an umbrella organization over several more focused centers and provides essential support to these centers so that they prosper. nanoSTAR serves as the primary UVA entity developing, coordinating and managing the multiple and diverse nanotechnology-based programs and products at UVA.
nanoSTAR is happy to announce an expanded leadership team. Dr. Mark Kester has joined nanoSTAR as the new co-director with Dr. Stuart Wolf and Dr. Nathan Swami is now the associate director. Nathan also co-directs the center for nano/biosystems research, a nanoSTAR seeded center. We would like to thank Dr. Jeff Fox, former managing director of nanoSTAR for his years of service and commitment. Dr. Jeff Fox is now the managing director of the Center for Automata Processing, another nanoSTAR seeded center.
NanoSTAR is still highly committed to all of our programs including trans-ground seed grants, undergraduate student research funding, graduate student travel fund, eminent speaker series and spring symposium.
We are grateful to all of our associates who have continuing to make nanoSTAR a national and international recognized center of excellence for nanoscale research and engineering. We also look forward to attracting new associates who want to be part of our “virtual sandbox” where engineers, material scientists, chemists, physicists, biologists, medical scientists, and clinicians develop, validate and commercialize novel nanoscale platform and technologies.
Wish best regards,
Dr. Mark Kester
