Undergraduate Summer Research Fund

2017 nanoSTAR Undergraduate Summer Research Program

This program helps undergraduates experience cutting-edge nanoscale research at UVa. Students and Faculty members submit a joint proposal to support their project. Each selected summer research proposal receives up to $3,000 in the form of salary to the students. Under faculty advisory, students immerse themselves in the laboratory environment for the summer culminating in a short summary of their work and findings. Most students report that their summer research influenced their capstone projects and, for several students, will likely influence their graduate work as well.

Applications for Summer 2017 are currently open. A list of faculty advisors that are hosting undergraduate students to do research in their labs this summer is posted below. If you do not have a faculty advisor to work for this summer, you can select one from the list of researchers and contact them directly to discuss openings in their labs.

If you are currently working under a faculty member in a lab or you have a faculty member that you wish to work with, please proceed with the application requesting assignment in that lab. It is not a requirement that the faculty memeber you intend to work with be on the list of researchers. All faculty members doing research are eligible to host students during the summer program.

Completed applications can be emailed to Tonya Reynolds at nanostar@virginia.edu before April, 13, 2017.  Call or email nanoSTAR with any questions.
